Emergency Coordination Meetings

In view of the emergency situation due to earthquake in Sikkim and second wave of floods in Orissa, Sphere India is organizing an Emergency Coordination Meeting on 4th of October 2011(Tuesday) from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm at India Islamic Cultural Centre, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi.

In view of the emergency situation due to earthquake in Sikkim and floods in Orissa, Sphere India is organizing an Emergency Coordination Meeting today-19th September 2011 from 2:00pm onwards at Raunaq Room , PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 4/2 Siri Institutional Area, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi to discuss the following:
Uttar Pradesh
The breach in the ring bund at Elgin-Charsadi embankment at River Ghaghra near Barabanki and Gonda districts in Uttar Pradesh on 01st August, 2011 afternoon has affected number of villages in both the districts. There is a risk of situation getting worse in case of heavy rains and high water discharge in the upstream.
Inter-Agency Group, UP has initiated actions on the current situation and has released situation reports and updates. Inter-Agency Multi-Sectoral assessment of the affected areas is being planned by the IAG-UP on 5th August and more updates shall be available after the assessment.
| Assam
The current flooding in Assam (NE India) has been of concern for all the humanitarian agencies working in NE states. The rainfall continues in the upper reaches of Arunachal Pradesh resulting in Brahmaputra river surge and overflow in few places.
The IAG-Assam has carried out a Joint Rapid Assessment in the two most affected districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji during 22-23 July and has made real-time assessment, analysis of the situation vis-a-vis gaps if any.
| West Bengal
The embankment breach at Atapur village, in the Sandeshkhali - II Block of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal has created flood situation in the village damaging 90 houses on the 1th August, 2011. Prior to this breach, the heavy rainfall and deep depression had already affected 671952 persons in 154 Blocks across 9 districts of West Bengal, viz., East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Bankura, Puruliya, North and South 24 Parganas, and Murshidabad.
